From L-R: Vanilla, Shell, Cork, Mink Stole, Black-Brown, Smoky Taupe, Graphite, and Black

My say on the product

I picked up this palette because of its pretty neutral shades.

All the shades are neutral matte shadows.

Vanilla and Shell are subtle white and peachy white respectively. Both can be used for a  neutral wash over the eyelid to set a primer, while acting as a subtle brow bone highlight. These aren’t very opaque but are pigmented enough for my needs.
Cork and Smoky Taupe are great crease transition shades
Mink Stole and Black-Brown are great for filling in brows. Black-Brown is also good for a more natural brown smoky eye.
Graphite is nice for a softer grey smoky eye.
Black is a nice matte black shade, perfect for a jet black smoky eye.

Pros of Ben Nye Essential Eye Shadow Palette

  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Doesn’t fade easily
  • Neat set of matte shades
  • Versatile for matte smokey eyes, crease darkening, brow filling and subtle highlighting
  • Nice, neat, and professional packaging which makes for easy travel

Cons of Ben Nye Essential Eye Shadow Palette

  • None that I can think of

From L-R: Ice, Sun Yellow, Azalea, Cosmic Blue, Silver, Bronze, Jade, Cherry red, Cosmic Violet, Royal Purple, Tangerine, and Indian Copper

My say on the product

I bought this palette along with the Ben Nye Lumière Grande Palette because it had a wide color range, which I would need for bridal makeup.

All of the shades are shimmery except for Silver (#5) which is merely silver glitter.

Ice : shimmery white
Sun Yellow : yellow; too bright and horrendous to ever use.
Azalea : an almost matte dark pink.
Cosmic Blue : bright shimmery blue
Silver : silver glitter
Bronze : A nice dull shade of bronze-gold
Jade : dark emerald green
Cherry red : Bright red. Side by side with the green, it looked like Christmas in my palette
Cosmic Violet and Royal Purple: Shades of purple
Tangerine : an orangey gold.
Indian Copper : a beautiful copper shade

I actually love the colours of this palette; however, it’s a pity that if you apply enough of the product on the lid, it always creases, no matter whether you use a primer underneath, or if you set it with a powder eye shadow on top (I used the Ben Nye Lumière Grande Palette).

If you use small amounts of the product on the lid and balance it with more powder eyeshadow, then the colors and the entire point of using that color is lost.

I was so disappointed. I really expected better from Ben Nye.

Oh well, it gives me an excuse to buy more makeup 😀

Pros of Ben Nye Lumière Creme Color Palette:

  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Brilliant color range

Cons of Ben Nye Lumière Creme Color Palette:

  • Creases horribly
  • Expensive

Rating:

All in all – 1/5.

From L-R: Ice, Aztec Gold, Silveira, Azalea, Cosmic Blue, Sun Yellow, Iced Gold, Tangerine, Chartreuse, Jade, Amethyst and Cosmic Violet.

My say on the product

I bought this palette because it seemed well pigmented and had a wide color range which I would need for bridal makeup. However I was quite disappointed in the colors of the palette which I found almost unusable.

All the shades have shimmer in it, with the exception of a few shades which are almost matte.

Ice and Silver (#1 and #3) are almost similar in color.
Aztec Gold, Sun Yellow, Iced Gold and Tangerine (#2, #6, #7, and #8 respectively) are shades of yellow/gold. I almost never use these because they are rather garish on Indian skin except for Iced Gold which is almost sheer with little gold flecks.
Azalea (#4) is an almost matte dark pink shade that I disliked on sight.
Cosmic Blue (#5) is a bright blue which is underwhelming on the eye and has bad colour payoff.
I also rarely use the greens, Chartreuse and Jade (#9, #10) and the purples, Amethyst and Cosmic Violet (#11, #12).

I prefer more jewel toned blues and greens and violets, and I like dark golds and bronzes like MAC woodwinked.

While someone else might appreciate this palette, this was a bad buy for me. I’m sure this would look very nice on paler skin tones or perhaps very deep skintones but definitely not on tan or dusky Indian skin.

Pros of Ben Nye Lumière Grande Color Palette

  • Easy to apply and blend
  • Doesn’t fade easily

Cons of Ben Nye Lumière Grande Color Palette

  • Bad color payoff – requires a good primer to bring out the colors
  • I dislike the color range
  • Expensive
